§ 006 — Frequently asked

Common questions.

What does S.D. Maynard write?
Urban fantasy and paranormal romance — slow-burn suspense, found family, and morally grey monsters who choose a side.
Reading order — The Fallen Response Unit
Books 1–4 (Shadow Protocol, Infernal Frequencies, Crimson Tides, Broken Chains) each stand alone as complete love stories — read them in any order. Books 5 and 6 tell one complete story featuring all the couples from Books 1–4, so read those two last, together.
Reading order — The Savage Court
You can start with either book. Scars Left in Silver is the prequel — set twenty years before Big Bad, it tells how Big Bad’s hero came to power. If you care about sequential order, start there. Little Red is next.
Where can I buy the books?
Amazon, Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and Google Play — ebook, print, and audiobook. Direct ebooks & audiobooks at the Shop.
Are the books spicy?
Open door — and the level of steam and the kinds of intimacy vary by couple, just like they do in real life. Some couples are tender. Some break furniture. All of them are sex-positive and believe in consent. Content notes appear in each book’s front matter.
Are there happily-ever-afters?
Every romance gets its HEA. One honest caveat: Rising Storm (Book 5) and Book 6 were originally a single story that grew into two volumes — so Book 5’s happily-ever-after arrives with the finale. Read them as a pair.
What’s coming next?
Rising Storm (FRU Book 5) arrives August 1, 2026, and Enduring Light (Book 6) follows September 1 — together they wrap the initial Fallen Response Unit arc, though there are many more books planned in this world. After that: Little Red, the third Savage Court book, centered on Katerina’s daughter Nina.
